Massa Lubrense and Sant' Agata sui due golfi is popularly known as the legendary Land of Sirens (from which it derives the toponym of “Sirenusion”), who lived along the coast and with their haunting and beautiful voices lured sailors onto the rocks. According to the legend, Ulysses passed for Ieranto Bay, and there he built the temple of the goddess Athena. Ieranto Bay or Baia di Ieranto, in Massa Lubrense, is one of the rare Italian place inhabited from the very ancient times, and the only intact creek of the Amalfi Coast.

Beyond the legend, the presumed aborigines of the area were two: Ausons and Osci, of which, a while ago, it was found an inscription nearby the eastern shore of Punta Campanella.

Its name derives from the Longobard word "mansa", which defined a territorial unit, with the adjective "lubrense" related to the Church of Madonna della Lobra, so named because it was built upon a pre-existing pagan temple (delubrum, in Latin).

Massa Lubrense is the climatic centre of the Sorrento Peninsula. It has a triangular form and borders at north-east with Sorrento, Gulf of Salerno on the left and Gulf of Naples on the right. The gulfs are separated by the peak of Punta Campanella (historically called “Athenaeum promontory”) that faces the island of Capri. This gorgeous strip offers fantastic occasions for excursions both overland and underwater.

SORRENTO: Its coast reflects on the gulf of Naples to provide breathtaking panoramas; suspended between the blue sea and dominating green hills, Sorrento is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Campania and Southern Italy, elected by the Roman nobles as their vacation spot due to its beauty and favorite city of poets and authors like Goethe, D'Annunzio and Stendhal. The Sorrento peninsula surrounds Villa Paradiso with its remote Etruscan villages, splendid Vico Equense promontory and fascinating Punta della Campanella, beyond which lies the 50 km of the Amalfi Coast: the villas overlooking the sea in Ravello, Positano and Amalfi will take your breath away for their extraordinary landscapes and famous restaurants, the coveted destination of millions of tourists who love the harmonious balance of history, culture and fun.

With its 42 kilometre stretch of gently sloping coastline and white pebbled-beaches, the Amalfi Coast is an 'earthly paradise' with breathtaking beauty.

AMALFI COAST: One of Italy's most spectacular coastlines begins after Sorrento, runs through Positano and continues until it reaches Amalfi. Looking along the tall cliffs and down into the sapphire sea, takes your breath away.

POSITANO: A vibrant village with narrow, colourful buildings which cascade like a waterfall down a vertiginous hill to the sea. Positano's town centre meanders down to the waterfront, where a profusion of cafes, bars and restaurants sell fresh seafood. The beach air is filled with the perfume of orange, almond blossom and jasmine.

AMALFI: Once the most important trading port in the southern Italy, Amalfi is in the ravine of the Mulini Valley, its churches, towers and arcaded houses rising above the small harbour. The town's Duomo dominates a long flight of steps and embraces a picturesque piazza stretching to its seafront. A wonderful contrast between fine beaches in front and tall cliffs behind.

CAPRI: Capri offers panormamic vistas at every turn, picturesque eateries with local seafood and blue grottos hidden under the limestone cliffs. A trip to Capri is ideal for a one-day excursion from Sorrento with the hydrofoil. Capri is, unquestionably, the holiday princess of the Italian islands: idyllic and rugged with its shimmering Blue Grotto and cliffs that descend down into the sea. Capri has trendy jewellery shops and designer boutiques.

POMPEII & VESUVIUS: Pompeii is one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in the world and Vesuvius is the only active volcano in Europe. Pompeii and Herculaneum are cities buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and re-discovered in the 18th century. It is possible to drive to 3,200 feet and then trek to its summit to enjoy the mesmerising views of the entire gulf of Naples.
